The proven original ATD-200™ is a passive receiver capable of detecting transponder replies from nearby aircraft and displaying their proximity in a graphical display. It also provides distinctive voice warnings in relation to traffic proximity. The system consists of a receiver/indicator unit, antenna, power cord, and headphone cable. Also included is a mounting kit and instructions of how to mount the receiver into an aircraft panel. The receiver is housed in an all aluminum box (2.75" x 0.75" x 5.0"). At this size, the ATD-200™ is the smallest unit of this type on the market (look at pictures of the ATD-200™ further down this page). The ATD-200™ has a detection range of 3 to 4 NM for light aircraft and up to 6 NM for air transport aircraft. This range variation is due to the transponder types installed in these aircraft. Proximity of the traffic is displayed on a five LED amber light segment. When traffic is at 4 NM one LED segment is lighted. As traffic gets closer, additional segments light up until all five segments are displayed. At this point, traffic is only 0.5 NM away. If the traffic is Mode S equipped, the blue Mode S light illuminates for every Mode S reply acquired. What People are Saying about the ATD-200™. However, own transponder replies are indicated by the green LED labeled SUPR. The SUPR LED also will indicate when the onboard DME equipment is transmitting. The ATD-200™ provides distinctive voice warnings for traffic at different ranges. When the VOICE switch is set to the FAR position and traffic is at approximately 3 NM and within 2,500 ft of vertical separation or when the second LED turns on "TRAFFIC" will be annunciated. As the traffic gets closer to approximately 1 NM and within 1,500 ft.of vertical separation or four LEDs lighted, the message will change to "Traffic Nearby". When the VOICE switch is set to the NEAR position, only traffic at 1 NM or closer will activate the voice warnings. When the VOICE switch is set to mute there are no messages for any traffic, however traffic proximity will still be displayed on the RANGE display. A screwdriver adjustable volume control is located on the bottom side of the unit. Audio output to a speaker (8 ohms) or headphones (600 ohms) is provided on the back side of the unit. A test feature verifies transponder and ATD-200™ operation. When you first push the test button you will hear "CHECK TRANSPONDER". This is to check that the transponder is on and replying. After being depressed for six seconds, you will hear "TRAFFIC DETECTOR WORKING" and the display bar will fully illuminate. Also, the SUPR LED will turn off when depressed. You may not hear the second message if the transponder is not replying (due to not receiving ATC interrogations) or is malfunctioning. ATD-200™ is one of the greatest advancements in technology. It is the smallest traffic avoidance unit on the market. It is also the only portable unit on the market that is incased in an all metal case. DIM switch: It powers the unit and controls display brightness. HI - to set the display at high brightness for daytime flight. LOW - to set the display at low brightness for nighttime flight. OFF - turns off the ATD-200™. VOICEswitch: It controls the voice alert activation. Messages are provided every ten seconds but more often if there is an imminent or multiple threat. ON LED: It indicates the unit is on and receiving power. SUPR LED: It indicates when the onboard transponder is transmitting. It will also turn on when the DME is transmitting. MODE S LED: It indicates when a Mode S transmission has been acquired. All TCAS II equipped traffic is Mode S equipped. But not all Mode S traffic is TCAS equipped. Mode S traffic alternates replies in Mode C and Mode S, so the same Mode S traffic may not light the Mode S LED at times. RANGE LED: It indicates the approximate range of the traffic. 1 LED.............................. 4 NM ....................................... "Traffic Nearby" TEST button: It verifies transponder and ADT 200™ operation. When first depressed, it will announce "CHECK TRANSPONDER". Verify the transponder is on and replying. After several seconds of the button being depressed and if the transponder is replying, it will annunciate "TRAFFIC DETECTOR WORKING" and the Range display will be fully lighted. The SUPR LED should turn off during the test.
