The 3300 is designed to operate with a direct connection to the transponder or with radiation coupling. The lower half of the front panel is dedicated to selection of the interrogation parameters and the upper half is dedicated to the display of the reply parameters.
The interrogation parameters are adjusted by setting the selector switch to the function to be adjusted. The UP-DN buttons are used to set the parameter to the desired value. The A-AC-C switch is used to select the operating mode.
Off is the power off condition. When the external charger is connected the internal batteries will be charged regardless of the switch position. DISPLAY BRIGHTNESS will normally be set to the dim level at power up; however if the up button is held during power up, the display will be set to the level choosen.
The Michel 3300 is designed to test ATC transponders on the bench as well as when they are installed in aircraft. As such, the 3300 contains an interrogation transmitter. The intended range of the interrogation is less than 100 ft. When used for ramp testing, the interrogation signal is comprised of pulse groups (PG) transmitted at a PRF of 235 PG/S. A pulse group consists of 3 or 4 pulses with a nominal width of 0.80 micro seconds. An external anntenna with a tripod and connecting cable are also available.
